Bees have a long history with human beings, and the traditional farming activity of keeping bees and obtaining honey has been passed down to this day.
In China alone, there are about 300,000 beekeepers who maintain nearly 14 million colonies of bees, making China the world's largest producer of bee products. Natural and nutritional products produced by bees, such as honey, royal jelly and propolis, continue to contribute to human health.
Honeybee colonies in China are responsible for more than 300 billion yuan of agricultural pollination each year, but that's not all bees are responsible for.
Globally, honeybee pollination contributes about 5-15% to agricultural production, and colony growth could effectively complement the loss of pollinators, which could help lift 300-800 million people worldwide out of hunger and poverty in a year. Bees, as commercially bred insects on a large scale, will become the most reliable pollinators and guardians of ecological diversity in the ecosystem on which we depend.
Bee-friendliness is our goodwill toward another species, derived from our own sense of crisis. It is a re-understanding of the partnership between humans and bees. It is believed that not only bee farmers, crop growers, scientific research and testing institutions, bee lovers, environmental volunteers and even any organization committed to fulfilling ecological sustainable social responsibility, have the opportunity to become an active practitioner of this theory.
Making the environment more beautiful and agriculture sustainable is the best vision we apicologists have for the future of bees and humans.
On the occasion of the fourth World Bee Day, I would like to extend season's greetings to those who work in the apiculture industry around the world and who recognize and will practice the concept of "bee-friendly".
